TEDxCalcutta is proud to present its List of 10+ speakers that will captivate you with their talks and stimulate your brain with ideas which are genuinely worth sharing.

And now, to the speaker list:

Gurubux Singh

Gurbux Singh is a Gold Medal winner for Hockey in the 1964 Olympics held at Tokyo. He is also a Gold Medal winner at 1966 Asian Games held at Bangkok, a Bronze Medal winner in the 1968 Olympics held at Mexico and an Arjuna Award winner in 1996.

Gurbux Singh led the Indian Hockey team as a captain from 1965 to 1968. More information about Gurbux Singh can be found on his Wikipedia page.

 
 
Ashok Vishwanathan

Ashok Viswanathan is a three time National Award Winning Film maker. He has the distinction of four of his fiction films included in the Indian Panorama sections of the International Film Festival of India in 1994, 1999, 2001 and 2002.

He has produced 5 feature films and multiple television serials. He has also directed more than a hundred films and television projects apart from his feature films.

As an actor, he has appeared in more than 21 feature films, directed by, among others, Rituporno Ghosh, Satarupa Sanyal, Chirs Morahan, Utpalendu Chakrborty and Madhabi Chakrborty.

Viswanathan represented India at Cambridge Seminar on modern fiction held at Downing College, Cambridge in 1997.

 
Pallav Nadhani

Pallav Nadhani is a 25 year old foodie who, when he is not eating, can run like Forrest Gump. He has been programming in Flash since the last century (read Flash 4).

He has co-authored a book on combining the power of Flash and .NET conveniently called 'Flash.net' and written several tech articles for international journals.

An MS in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh, he is the founder and lead developer of FusionCharts. All this is speculated to be a part of his secret design for world domination.

On a serious note, Pallav heads FusionChart, a software product development firm based out of Calcutta which has over 15,000 customer including Google, Facebook, Weather.com, LinkedIn and many others.

 
Rohit Srivastava

Rohit Srivastwa is a well-known security evangelist and held the position as the Director Technology at Commonwealth Games Pune (2008).

He has an expertise in cybercrime investigation and IT infrastructure management. Rohit is actively involved advising several military agencies, law enforcement personnel, media, corporate and Government bodies in these fields.

Along with assisting these organizations solving their cases, Rohit is also involved in teaching the related subjects to them. Rohit has trained the police departments of Pune, Mauritius and Malaysia.

Rohit is also the founder of ClubHack, a member driven community to spread the security awareness.

 
Olly Donnelly

Olly Donnelly is a Director and Co-founder of Shivia Microfinance. Prior to this she worked for Accenture Strategy in London. She started her career at the World Bank in Washington DC.

Whilst at the World Bank, she was awarded the World Bank Youth Innovation Fund and initiated Abhilasha project in Western Nepal, helping Dalit communities gain access to education. Olly has travelled extensively and spends much time in India and Nepal working on a variety of projects including microfinance, HIV/AIDS, women, education, caste issues and with disadvantaged babies. Olly is involved in several charities in the UK and abroad. She advises a number of NGOs on their strategies.

Olly studied Geography at Oxford University and was awarded a first class honours in her degree. Her thesis was based on the informal sector in Calcutta, focusing on the hand-rickshaw trade. She then got Distinction in her Masters from Oxford University and her thesis was based on Urbanisation in Calcutta. Olly was recently included in Management Today's 2009 list: "35 women under 35"

 
Drubes Biswas

Dr. Dhrubes Biswas is a renowned professor of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering, as well as in Management & Entrepreneurship while internationally recognized expert in radio frequency integrated circuits (RFIC) and in technology ventures in Wireless Electronics, Cellular Phone Systems, communication related RFICs. He is permanently based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, while currently operating out of Kolkata, India.

Dr. Biswas received his B.Tech (EE dept) from IIT, Kharagpur, M.S and Ph.D. in Engineering (Electronic Devices and Materials) from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Currently he is the Professor of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering, Professor-in-Charge of Incubation and Entrepreneurship, Managing Director of Science and Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park, and directing International University Collaborations, Technology Parks, Business Incubation, Technology Business Incubator for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Govt of India), Entrepreneurship Programs at IIT, Coordinator, Technopreneur Promotion Program for Innovation grants (Govt of India), Technology Entrepreneurship Development Program for grass-root entrepreneurs (Govt of India), and business liaisons with IIT’s industrial partners and international collaborators. Currently he is Advisor to Government of West Bengal, INDIA on policies/Information Technology and Chairman of the Webel Venture Capital Fund, Government of West Bengal, India.

Selected in Who's Who in Science and Engineering (1997), Who's Who in America (1999) Who's Who in the World (1999), Man of the Year 1999 (in Technology) and 2000 Outstanding Scientists of the 20th Century, Dr. Biswas has authored numerous technical papers and holds patents. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEEE) & member of honor societies of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi.

 
Arun Singh

Dr. Arun Singh is passionate about Advanced Neonatology and Early Intervention for children in the 0-3 year age group.

Dr. Singh is an Associate Professor and Head Department of Neonatology for the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (IPGMER), S.S.K.M. Hospital and the associated Medical College Kolkata-700 020.

Dr. Singh started working alone for development of this neonatal unit, and in 2002 it was declared as the first National Neonatology Forum, India accredited Level-II Neonatal Special Care Unit among Government Hospitals in West Bengal.

During 2003, it was declared as an advanced neonatal unit by the state government with separate teaching staff for Neonatology.

Dr. Singh also has different perspectives and a deep passion for child care, so much so that any conversation on the topic with him is not just informative, but deeply inspirational.

 
Ananya Bhattacharya

Ananya Bhattacharya is a social entrepreneur working for community education and capacity development using innovative culture based approaches.

Ananya is an Electrical Engineer from Jadavpur University (1989) and a Commonwealth Scholar in Sustainable Development studies from Staffordshire University, UK. After working for 10 years in global Information Technology sector, Ananya joined the Development sector in 2000. She has played a leading role in developing banglanatak.com – a unique social enterprise specializing in social communication, community mobilization, capacity building and research, established in May,2000. She is the Vice President at banglanatak.com.

Ananya designs and manages innovative awareness and advocacy programs which physically reach out to poor and less educated communities living in media dark areas, build their awareness and mobilise them to take action for improving their life style, living condition and socio-economic situation. Ananya has been a key note speaker on culture and sustainable development in national and international forums around the globe.

 
Anjan Raichaudhuri

Anjan Raichaudhuri is an entrepreneur cum academic, currently teaching entrepreneurship courses at IIMC.

He studied engineering at IIT Kharagpur and Management at IIM Calcutta, and has spent time as a senior executive in a Tata JV, as an entrepreneur with a nation-wide management consulting organisation, and also as an academic with several leading Institutions.

 
Bikash Barai

Bikash Barai Bikash is the co-founder and CEO of iViZ, the world's first company to provide Automated and On Demand Simulation of Human Hackers for Effective Penetration Testing (Ethical Hacking) and Security Risk Management.

He has done Double B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur in 'Computer Science' (Hons) and 'Architecture' and also a Masters in 'Computer Science and Information Technology'. He specializes in Network Security and Simulation of a Hacker's mind using Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Hacking, Social Engineering and Attack Simulation. He is credited of several innovations in the domain of Network Security and Anti-Spam Technologies and has patents filed under his name.

Bikash led iViZ to get recognized as Asia's Top 2 and Global Top 6 Security Startups and also among World's Top 8 Innovative Startups by organization like Homeland Security, US Navy, London Business School or University of California Berkeley. He also led iViZ to secure funding from the renowned US Venture Capital fund-IDG Ventures which has previously funded companies like Netscape.

Apart from professional activities he actively pursues painting, magic and had made proactive efforts to promote Indian Art in the Online Community. Bikash is a TiE Charter member and one of the anchors of Data Security Council of India. He is also an active speaker at various platforms like Nasscom, University of California - Berkeley, NUS Singapore, Global Security Challenge, TiE and several others.

 
Sarvesh Tiwari

Sarvesh Tiwari is a Mechanical Engineer with Master's degree in Manufacturing, and works as a consultant in a firm dealing with business process and information technology.

Traveling and researching on the subjects of Indian History and Culture are his passions, and he is also an ardent student of languages and traditions.

He publishes his articles dealing with these subjects in journals and conferences, and blogs as a hobby at bharatendu.wordpress.com.

Sarvesh is currently co-authoring his book Inidan history.

Having lived in many parts of India and being abroad in America, Australia and Europe for many years, he now lives in Kolkata with his family.

Radha Base

Radha Basu is widely recognized as a leading woman entrepreneur in technology companies, pioneer in the Indian software business and serial social entrepreneur. Radha held the position of Chairman and CEO of SupportSoft from 1999 to 2006. She led the company through initial and secondary public offerings and built it into a worldwide market leader in support automation software.

Prior to SupportSoft, Radha spent 20 years at Hewlett Packard, her most recent position being General Manager of the Electronic Business Software Organization, which she grew to a global $1.5 billion business. Radha joined HP as an Research And Development engineer in HP Laboratories, working in the field of ultrasound imaging. In 1985 she set up the company's sales and R&D operations in India, including the India Software Operation, where she served as Managing Director. In 1989 Radha became General Manager of HP's International Software Organization with responsibility for eight offshore software centers around the world.

In 2006, Radha and her husband Dipak Basu, founded Anudip Foundation for Social Welfare. Anudip is an NGO located in Calcutta working to provide livelihood opportunities to marginalized rural poor of Bengal through IT and entrepreneurship training. Anudip is also setting up rural BPOs and hiring the students it trains and develops to provide data entry, digitization and web-based project services. Radha also serves on the boards of nonprofit organizations Interplast and CEO Women. Radha has won numerous awards including Excelsior Leadership, Top25 Women of the Web, CEO of the Year 2000, Leader of the Millennium. She has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Upside Magazine and Economic Times. She has featured as a guest speaker at Wharton School, MIT Sloan School, Stanford Business School, Santa Clara University, and the Forbes Executive Summit.
